Developing students’ creativity in class
is not always easy. Creativity is a very personal skill. However, teachers can encourage their students
to be creative by providing them with opportunities. As I have already mentioned, brainstorming
is one such opportunity. You can also encourage creativity in their
project work. When making posters for display, or picture
books, ask your students if they could identify their work if there were no name. This will encourage them to be creative with
colors and visuals. This will also encourage them to make the
content unique to them in some way. Songs and stories allow students to make their
own contributions. They can add to the song or continue the story
beyond the official ending. They can provide gestures and mime to act
out the song or story. In this way, they make their own contribution
to the songs and stories.
